San Francisco Rock Band Journey formed the band in 1973, by former members of Santana. Their strongest commercial success occurred between 1978 and 1987, where the band released a series of hit songs, including 1981's "Don't Stop Believin'", which in 2009 became the top-selling catalog track in iTunes history.

The Steve miller band are another rock group formed previous to journey in 1967. The were one of the top San Francisco Rock bands during the 60's and 70's, and one of the top-selling pop/rock acts of the mid- to late '70s and early '80s with hits like "The Joker," "Fly Like an Eagle," "Rock'n Me,".and "Abracadabra".
